TASTING NOTES

Pale straw yellow in colour. The ‘21 vintage may be
well characterized as an exercise in restraint. No
sledgehammer wallop of oak here but rather alight-to-mid weight mouthful of subdued dry-edged orchard fruit ( orange/ pomelo ), white floral notes, a semblance of baked lemon tart interwoven
with distinctive Prince Edward County minerality
and the discreet murmur of oak spice.

A great compliment to any meal. Showcase this wine while hosting a fancy dinner party and as it flows, so will the conversation. Just don’t open while cooking, otherwise it might not make it to the table…the wine nor the host.

Yet another example of just how well-suited our province is to Chardonnay, this bottle is full of intrigue and sensual appeal. At first, it offers soft lemon and baked apple scents. Then, a graceful entry feels lithe and polished, yet complex. Ripe pear shifts toward grapefruit zest before cool suggestions of crushed oyster shells, Marcona almond, honeycomb and nutmeg emerge. Much finesse to be found in this medium-bodied dry white wine.

A lean and firm, high acid/low alcohol, slightly creamed corn/lactic expression of chardonnay from Huff estate’s South Bay vineyard, working, for the time being at two speeds, firm and tight but also on the more oxidative side of the spectrum. I like the succulent acids, the saline quality, the lingering finish showing genuine concentration. There’s a great deal of substance here, a wine that demands some patience and attention to fully understand – there’s a lot going on, and in the end, a wine of excellent quality. Try gain after 2023 – this should really reward a little patience. Tasted August 2022.

From a vineyard near the shores of South Bay, this chardonnay is showing both County delicacy and fruit depth from the ageing vines. It is quite classy with a generous nose of butter, cream corn, yellow apple plus light baguette, tobacco and spice from French oak. It is medium weight, fairly plush and glossy in texture with some warmth and excellent length. Tasted August 2022
