90 Points

An unusually deep, pure pinot noir rosé from the County, this also has concentration and fruit intensity above the mean, as well as strong sulfide character (onion skin, but not unpleasant). The palate shows acids with verve and cut, also saliva-inducing qualities. Length and depth are very good. Although a few dollars more than most, this may well be one of Huff’s best value wines – there’s solid wine here for the money; I’d even suggest another few months in bottle to settle things out. Tasted June 2021.

Huff made a good amount of their 2020 Country Roads and for good reason, with thanks to a most excellent, unhindered, focus on growing perfect pinot noir grapes season. No red fermentation would have tossed these grapes out of the barrel for eating crackers. The method is 16 hours on skins (50 per cent whole cluster) for a next level, bring on the sunshine, head to an island or the tropics Rosé. Just an inch away from bone dry and with this uncanny note of rose hip and sumac. That tart citrus tang is all country twang rubbed with a reggae island dub. Sip this and transport yourself away because this 2020 is way more Toots and the Maytals than John Denver, “younger than the mountains, blowin’ like a breeze.” Drink 2021-2023. Tasted June 2021.
